JACK OF ALL TRADES...
Hmmm... I always relate this teaching profession and myself as "Jack of all Trades... Ever since I started teaching in 1991, I think I deserve a "Santa Claus Nobel Award" for all the classical materials. In the first few years, I truly lived up to become one of the best new brooms in school. I kept a record of my teaching aids (that was what they were named before switching to LEARNING AIDS) for the primary school kids.
Primary school materials are colourful, fun and very objective....whereas the secondary are loads of paper work. In primary school, I got to teach three languages ~ B.Malaysia, English Language and B. Iban (native language). Apart from that, I was also being oriented by the Moral, PJK, Science and even Maths subjects. Now, I'm stuck with ICTL too.
Oooo...yes...I almost forgot... my previous school list:
1991 - 1997: Sekolah Kebangsaan Sungai Duan
I wonder if I still kept some pictures of the school back then... It was a very remote school with a very primitive cultural background... I almost had close encounters with Borneo's headhunters once... (dramatically..!!). I really 'matured' fast and became very well-seasoned with environment. Ironically, there is no 'sungai' (river) anywhere nearby the school and so, if there is no rain for a week, school will be closed for 2 weeks...
I was also one the AJK for the school generator...so, I built up muscles on my upper arm and toned up my upper chest as it took a lot of energy to turn the generator's wheel fast in order to start up electricity.
1998 - 1999: Sekolah Kebangsaan Nanga Delok
This was a heavenly school. Going into the national park of Batang Ai in Lubok Antu, the trip took almost 2 hours by boat to reach the school. Again, there's an irony ~ the national hydro electricity dam is built here but there is no electricity for the rumah panjai (long houses) and the school.... Pity, huh?
Here, I learned to steer small boats and paddle them; fishing, and smoked fish. I was exuberantly healthy living in this interior region but was also pissed off many times when I got to read and catch up with news that was 2 or sometimes 3 weeks late... I missed courses and latest info of further studies.
2000: Sekolah Kebangsaan Nanga Lawih
I was transferred upriver again... My hubby and I traveled from home as early as 6.30am, Sunday morning on a motorbike. We raged the highway every once a week for an hour to reach the jetty. On warm days, I was often caught asleep as a pillion rider... From there, we'd catch a long boat ...and this time, on dry seasons we'd reach the school very late in the evening.... So you can imagine, what I'd do in between the hours... when the men towed the boat, I'd be happily doing natural reflexology along the stony coastline and sometimes, when there were some school kids on the boat...we'd hunt for edible snails and body scrubbing ourselves with pebbles til we shine..!
Life was good but soon I got fed up being too comfy...
2001 - March 2005: Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI)
I went full time for my first degree in TESL... It was an eye opening experience.
2005: Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Saratok
.....up til today, my hive gets busier and juicier....
I begin to wonder.... how long would it take before I begin feel bore again...???
